Greater Gresham Area Prevention Partnership

What is the Greater Gresham Area Prevention Partnership (GGAPP)?

A five year federally funded drug prevention program from the Executive Office of the President / Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) & Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSA) – The funding stream is part of the drug free communities act of 1997 – hence the Drug Free Communities Grants are provided to local communities.

In year one of the project, GGAPP is based upon a community collaborative model.

“The coalition is a formal agreement and collaboration between groups or sectors of a community in which each group retains its identity but all agree to work together toward a common goal of building a safe, healthy, and drug free community.”

The fiduciary agency and grantee agency is the Police Activities League [PAL] who will manage the grant and over-see the one staff person that will assist community groups with program support and training.

What will GGAPP do?

The coalition members will be sharing resources, ideas and energy through representatives from the community.
  • Law Enforcement
  • Local, state and federal government
  • The Faith Community
  • Schools and Educators
  • Non-profit public Service Agencies
  • Parents
  • Youth

The GGAPP coalition will identify key community issues and address them through the following efforts.

  • Provide information and support about substance abuse.
  • Enhance skills for youth, families and community members.
  • Reduce barriers and enhance access to healthy activities.
  • Change incentives and consequences of substance abuse in the community.
  • Work to change the physical design of the community.
  • Modify policies and systems to support an active drug free community.

These efforts will help the coalition to meet the GGAPP GOALS.

This is a future community where:

  • Drinking alcohol among youth is on the decline due to changing community norms around alcohol abuse.
  • Teens grow up to be responsible adults who choose whether or not to drink, and if they do, drink responsibly.
  • Community risk factors of crime, poverty, and the abuse of other substances decrease in the face of more community involvement.
  • Understanding of the negative consequences of substance abuse is widespread.

GGAPP's Vision

To establish and strengthen collaboration within the communities served by the Reynolds, Gresham Barlow and Centennial School districts,

To significantly reduce substance abuse among youth and adults by addressing the risk factors in the community that lead to unhealthy behaviors.

To support and increase the activities and protective factors for youth and families that promotes a healthy and drug free community.
